This year's Italian Formula 1 Grand Prix at Monza, a highlight of the calendar for Ferrari fans, will take place without viewers due to the Covid-19 pandemic, organizers said on Wednesday (July 29) .
The Italian Grand Prix website ( www.monzanet.it ) said the tickets would be fully refunded.
"The 2020 edition of the Italian Formula 1 Grand Prix at the Autodromo Nazionale Monza from September 4 to 6 will be held behind closed doors, without spectators," he added.
However, the bump is likely to come down if Italy take three races this season for the first time, the others at Imola and Mugello, owned by Ferrari, none of the tracks far from the team's Maranello factory.
Ferrari is struggling this year too, languishing fifth in the standings.
The first three races of the season that started this month in Austria were held behind closed doors, and Britain's Silverstone will host two more without spectators this weekend and next.
The Italian and British Grand Prix are the only races that have appeared on all calendars since the world championship began in 1950.
Monza, a temple to everything Ferrari-related, typically offers one of the best atmospheres in the sport with a straight start-finish after the race as fans flood the track to get closer to the podium.
Last year's race was won by young Ferrari Monégasque Charles Leclerc
