Kobe Bryant's induction to Hall of Fame postponed to next year

Written by : Jose Alvarado Sandoval ( DJ Malanga )

The Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame enshrinement ceremony for Kobe Bryant, Tim Duncan and Kevin Garnett and six others is postponed until 2021.
Hall of Fame Board of Governors chairman Jerry Colangelo broke the news on Wednesday (May 27) to ESPN.
The ceremony was due to be held Aug 29 in Springfield, Massachusetts, following a presentation the previous day in Uncasville, Connecticut.
The Boston Globe recently reported that the Hall of Fame was looking to postpone the events until October, but Colangelo told ESPN that holding the ceremony this year won't be possible due to the ongoing effects of the Covid-19, pandemic.

"We're definitely cancelling," Colangelo said. "It's going to have to be the first quarter of next year. (The board will) meet in a couple of weeks and look at the options of how and when and where."

He told ESPN that the Hall of Fame explored the possibility of moving the ceremony from Springfield's 2,611-seat Symphony Hall to the city's 8,319-seat MassMutual Centre to provide more opportunity for social distancing, but ultimately the decision was made to wait until next year.

Kobe Bryant died on Jan 26 aged 41 in a helicopter crash in Calabasas, California, that also claimed the life of daughter, Gianna, and seven others.

Indignation of Lebrón James and the entire planet over the death of citizen George Floyd, in Minneapolis

Written by : Jose Alvarado Sandoval ( Dj malanga )

Today when I watched the video, I felt helplessness, anger, resentment, wanting to get on the screen of my cell phone, and smash the face of those two unhappy people who call themselves police, it is not possible that four or two irresponsible savages, stained the honor and kill a citizen who was already controlled and with handcuffs on.

Incredible that these atrocities happen in the middle of the 20th century, not only did they kill this citizen, but they stained the honor of the Minneapolis police department, I am sure that in that police force, there are honorable police officers who deserve to wear that badge , plus the awful scene, that we observe today with so much indignation, through that video, has gone around the world, and left that entire police department badly stopped.

The late George Floyd, 46, was a close friend of former player Stephen Jackson, who went through nine franchises and lived his best years with the Pacers and Warriors. On social media, he has mourned the death of his friend he calls "brother" and "twin." Floyd was detained by the Minneapolis police on charges of forgery. There are images in which he can be seen on the ground while a police officer has his knee on the detainee's neck, who on more than one occasion says he cannot breathe. After a few minutes, the detainee was put on a stretcher and transferred by ambulance to a hospital where he finally died. The Mayor of Minneapolis has already said that the four police officers involved have been fired.

"Please. His knee in my neck I can't breathe!" Was what Floyd was pleading. For his part, a witness told the police officers: "Take off his knee from the neck, check his pulse. He is not breathing, check his pulse!" Jackson and Floyd were born in Texas and grew up in Cuney Homes, a Houston social housing . "Anyone over there knows you were my brother. Not many came out, but my twin was happy that I did. I'm going to keep making you feel proud. It makes me so angry that after all the things you went through when you got to your best version you serve like this ... Rest Easy Twin, "wrote the former NBA player.

The event has also been commented by the President of the United States, Donald Trump, who said he gave orders to the FBI and the Justice Department to investigate the case of atrocity in the city of Minneapolis.

At my request, the FBI and the Department of Justice are already well into an investigation as to the very sad and tragic death in Minnesota of George Floyd...

Manchester United: Solskjaer, counting on Pogba, Rashford for restart

Written by : Jose Alvarado Sandoval ( Dj Malanga )

Manchester United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer said on Tuesday (May 26) he is confident of having Paul Pogba and Marcus Rashford fit should the Premier League season start next month.
Pogba has missed the majority of the campaign with an ongoing ankle injury, while Rashford seemed set to miss the rest of the season when he suffered a double stress fracture in his back in January.
United returned to training in small groups last week and preparations are expected to be ramped up further for a return to action when Premier League clubs vote on resuming contact training on Wednesday.
Hopefully now we've proved we can do this safely and we can move to the next step. It's been really enjoyable being on the training ground again," said Solskjaer.
"They (Pogba and Rashford) are looking good, they've joined training now and they've done everything the other boys have been doing. No reaction so far, touch wood.
"When we get started, it looks like we can have a full squad to choose from." The return of both players could be a major boost to United's hopes of ending the season on a high in three competitions.
Solskjaer's men were three points off the top four in the Premier League when play was halted due to the coronavirus pandemic in March.

English Premier League, training, resumed, from May 19, in small groups

Written by : Jose Alvarado Sandoval . ( dj malanga )

The clubs voted unanimously to allow players to start socially estranged training in an attempt to meet the Premier League mid-June date to resume the season.

Contact training is not allowed at this stage and corner flags, balls, cones, posts, playing surfaces, and other equipment will be disinfected after each session.

Tests for the coronavirus have been carried out in the Premier League clubs in recent days and will continue throughout the training period.

"Strict medical protocols at the highest level will ensure that everyone retrains in the safest possible environment," said a Premier League statement.

"The health and well-being of all participants is the Premier League's priority, and the safe return to training is a step-by-step process.

"The full consultation will now continue with players, managers, clubs, PFA and LMA as protocols for full contact training are developed."

The training protocols were presented to players and managers last week before being sealed during Monday's video conference.

Other rules in phase one include players who do not travel with anyone to or from training, while the use of public transportation and team vehicles is prohibited.

Newcastle was one of the first high-flying teams to confirm that the players had been tested in their training ground.

The club said the players would return on Tuesday, at which time all test results would be known.

Players will be asked to use an app daily to record any symptoms.

Timo Werner nets hat-trick as Leipzig crush hosts Mainz 5 x 0

Written by : Jose Alvarado Sandoval ( DJ Malanga )

Timo Werner scored a hat-trick as RB Leipzig demolished hosts Mainz  5 - 0,  on Sunday (May 24) to reclaim third place in the Bundesliga with an emphatic victory after three straight draws.
Germany international Werner, a target for several top European clubs this summer, opened his account in the 11th minute and Yussuf Poulsen nodded in the second goal in the 23rd.
Marcel Sabitzer killed off the game before the break, flicking in from close range as Mainz collapsed.

Werner scored again three minutes after the restart and the 24-year-old forward chipped the ball over keeper Florian Mueller in the 75th for his 24th goal of the season and 91st in all competitions for Leipzig to become their all-time top scorer.
Timo Werner has developed a very good sense not to move only on the wings but to go over to the 10 position, said Leipzig coach Julian Engelsmann of his striker’s work in a more central attacking role.
“Coupled with his speed, that makes him a more versatile player and makes it harder for his opponents to control him.”
Leipzig, who crushed Mainz 8-0 earlier in the season with Werner grabbing another hat-trick, moved back into third on 54 points, one place ahead of Bayer Leverkusen and two clear of Borussia Monchengladbach.
They have the upper hand in the battle for a Champions League spot.

Japanese tennis star Naomi Osaka

Written by : Jose Alvarado Sandoval ( Dj Malanga )

Japanese tennis star Naomi Osaka has become the world's highest-paid female athlete, making US$37.4 million  in the past one year, for an earnings record, Forbes magazine reported on Friday (May 22).
The 22-year-old Asian star, a two-time Grand Slam champion, edged US rival Serena Williams by US$1.4 million in prize money and endorsement income over the past year.
Both shattered the old single-year earnings mark of US$29.7 million set in 2015 by Russia's Maria Sharapova, who retired in February with five Grand Slam titles, including a career Slam.
"To those outside the tennis world, Osaka is a relatively fresh face with a great back story," University of Southern California sports business professor David Carter told Forbes.
"Combine that with being youthful and bicultural - two attributes that help her resonate with younger, global audiences - and the result is the emergence of a global sports marketing icon."
Osaka, whose father was born in Haiti and whose mother is Japanese, ranks 29th on the 2020 Forbes list of the world's 100 top-paid athletes, four spots ahead of Williams, who has won 23 Grand Slam singles titles.
The complete list, due to be released next week, has not featured two women since 2016, according to the magazine.
Williams, 38, had been the world's highest-paid female athlete in each of the past four years. Sharapova ruled for the five years before that.
Williams had annual incomes from US$18 million to US$29 million and has collected nearly US$300 million, much of it in endorsement deals.
Osaka won back-to-back Grand Slam titles at the 2018 US Open and 2019 Australian Open, her controversial and historic victory over Williams in the Flushing Meadows final the first Slam singles crown for a Japanese woman.
Osaka was a popular endorsement figure in Japan ahead of the now-postponed Tokyo Olympics and figures to remain a sponsorship dream through next year's rescheduled Games.
Nike signed a apparel deal with Osaka last year that paid her US$10 million in the past year and runs through 2025. Other endorsement deals include Nissan and Yonex racquets.

2021 'last option' for Tokyo Games, says Olympics chief Thomas Bach

Written by : Jose Alvarado S. ( Dj Malanga )

Olympics chief Thomas Bach said 2021 was the "last option" to hold the delayed Tokyo Games on Thursday (May 21), stressing that the postponement cannot continue forever.

Bach told the BBC that he agreed with Japan's stance that the Games will have to be canceled if the coronavirus pandemic is not under control for next year.

In March, the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games were postponed until July 23, 2021 when the coronavirus spread across the world, killing hundreds of thousands of people and making international sport impossible.

"Frankly, I understand a little bit (Japan's position) because you cannot employ 3,000 or 5,000 people forever on an organizing committee," said the president of the International Olympic Committee.

"You can't change the entire sports calendar worldwide for the major federations every year."

"You cannot have athletes in uncertainty, you cannot overlap too much with the future Olympics."

The Olympics have never been canceled outside of world wars, but Japanese officials have made clear that they have no intention of postponing the Games again beyond next year.

NFL set to lose $7.7 billion if stadiums are empty

Written by: Jose Alvarado S, ( Dj Malanga )

NFL teams stand to lose a combined $5.5 billion (S$7.7 billion) in stadium revenue if the 2020 campaign is played without any spectators, according to a Forbes magazine estimate.

The magazine, which annually values each NFL club, said the amount teams would lose with no spectators due to the coronavirus pandemic equals 38 percent of total NFL revenue from the 2018 season, the latest from which figures are available.

That includes lost revenue from ticket sales, parking, sponsors, food and drinks and souvenir sales.

Itis uncertain whether or not fans will be able to attend 2020 NFL games, with state shutdown regulations against large crowds and possible medical advances likely to impact such plans.

The league announced its 2020 schedule earlier this month. It opens September 10 when the Houston Texans visit the reigning Super Bowl champion Kansas City Chiefs.

Players would also take a hit as well as club owners, since they are set to receive 47 percent of football-related income under a collective bargaining agreement reached in March.

The absence of spectators would hit some teams harder than others, but none more than the Dallas Cowboys, who would lose US$621 million in stadium income - more than the total revenue of any other NFL franchise and a huge chunk of their US$950 million total revenue

New England Patriots would lose US$315 million from total revenues of US$600 million while the New York Giants ranked third at US$262 million lost from US$519 million in total revenue.

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers, 24th of 31 teams on the list with US$119 million in lost revenue from a US$400 million total, would expect a major jump in ticket sales and associated income after signing six-time Super Bowl champion quarterback Tom Brady.

And the two bottom teams on the list, the Los Angeles Chargers and Las Vegas Raiders, are set to move into new stadiums with vast boosts in ticket sales and associated income to be expected from the venue switches.

The Raiders figures would show US$77 million in lost revenue from a league-low US$357 million total, but those figures came in Oakland while the team is set to play in a brand new 65,000-seat, US$1.8 billion stadium in Las Vegas in 2020.

The Chargers, second-worst in the report with US$93 million in lost revenue from a US$375 million total, are set to move from a smaller venue into a new US$5 billion stadium with 70,000 seats for regular NFL games.

The Los Angeles Rams, set to drop US$121 million off total revenue of US$401 million, would also make the move into the new stadium.
