Tokyo 2020 - Surf / Brisa Hennessy: The Olympic Mermaid, from Costa Rica

Today we will talk about the athlete of the Surf discipline, Brisa Hennessy, a young woman full of talent, qualities, of an extraordinary future in the discipline of world surfing, with only 21 years old.

Hennessy was born in San José, Costa Rica, and raised in the coastal town of Matapalo. 

Her mother, Katherine Malia Hennessy (née Kobara), is a cook from the state of Hawaii, and her father, Michael James Hennessy, is a fisherman from the state of California. 

Both are surfers, her parents moved to Costa Rica in 1995 and have settled in the town of Puntarenas since then, where they established a surf instruction school.

 She attended  Carbonera School, in Puerto Jiménez, and began surfing from a very early age, specifically at three years old, mainly due to the influence of her parents, but also inspired by the characteristic waves of the beaches of  coastal town in which he grew up.

At the age of eight, Hennessy moved with her family to North Oahu, Hawaii, where she completed the first years of her education.

 On the island, she began to compete professionally, achieving notable successes and winning several competitions, which allowed her in 2019 to qualify for the 2020 Tokyo Olympics.

A competition that has allowed him to represent his country of birth, (Costa Rica) and thanks to his great performance, dedication, discipline, mental strength, concentration and advanced techniques in this sporting discipline, he has been among the five best surfers in the world. , in these Olympic games in Tokyo

Due to the performance that we have seen from this incredible Costa Rican athlete, we do not doubt that in the next games in France 2024, it is very possible that we will see her bathed in Olympic gold, from the gods of sport.
