The former Los Angeles Lakers star will be honored with the Governors Award at the 72nd Los Angeles Area Emmy Awards on July eighteenth.
Kobe Bryant, who died at age 41 in a helicopter crash in January, was selected for his "philanthropy, community building, and inspiration that extended beyond the basketball court," according to an announcement made Wednesday night ( June 10) by event organizer America's Television Academy.
Kobe advocated for a number of major causes and critical problems, becoming a women's basketball ambassador, mentor and youth advocate, and raising awareness of homelessness in Los Angeles. "
Kobe Bryant starred in 20 seasons with the Lakers, winning five NBA championships and 18 All-Star picks.
Off the court, he won an Academy Award in 2018 for the animated short film "Dear Basketball."
